Herbie Hancock
Herbie Hancock. Born Herbert Jefferey Hancock, April 12, 1940, Chicago, IL.

Putting Herbie Hancocks work into a category is a stupid thing to attempt. Jazz, Blues Funk, Hip Hop and even techno all lie in his repertoire. Hancock started out as a classical player but became one of the giants of new jazz along with Miles Davis, Charlie Mingus and John Coltrane. He then went on to produce some of the best jazz tinged funk of the time, moving on to a more techno tinged god knows what that ended up as Hip Hop. His hit 'Rockit' was the song that really bought scratching and Hip Hop beats to the mainstream. Hancocks played around with modern technology throughout his career which meant he always seemed to be a step ahead of virtually everybody else.
