Among the most prolific and popular of the 90s UK jazz funk generation, Incognito's origins can be traced back to the previous decade's Britfunk movement. The mainstay of the band is Jean Paul "Bluey" Maunick, a veteran of Light Of The World. His original co-conspirator in Incognito was Paul "Tubs" Williams, plus a loose collection of friends and associates including Ganiyu "Gee" Bello, Ray Carless, Jef Dunn, Vin Gordon and Peter Hinds. Incognito made their debut when a demo single, "Parisienne Girl', received such strong club and radio support that it was made an official release, peaking at number 73 in the UK charts in 1980. However, this early incarnation of the band was a brief one, and yielded just a single album for Ensign Records. Williams joined The Team, a funk group assembled by Bello, also working with Maunick on his Warriors side project.
