Isaac Hayes born August 6th 1938 in Covington, TN. Known mainly for his own recordings Hayes was one of the most successful songwriters for Stax records. He wrote songs for many artists including Johnnie Taylor, Carla Thomas, Mable John and Sam and Dave. He was/is known for his extended conceptual soul orchestrations made famous by his Grammy and Oscar winning "Shaft" soundtrack. His groundbreaking half sung, half spoken monologues were to become standard practice for 70's soul. "The Theme From Shaft" and "Hot Buttered Soul" remain premier league funk/soul albums but if you like his style (the music not nessiserely his baldheaded sun glass - wearing profundo) you should look at all of his recordings. Note the quality did seem to decrease fairly quickly during the mid 70's but he is still recording today as well as working as a D. | ||
